The Moodboard
A refined coastal-inspired moodboard drawing on the work of Australian designers Patricia Braune and Grace Garrett, blending layered textiles, natural timber tones and thoughtfully patterned upholstery. The palette balances sandy neutrals, muted coastal blues and organic greens, reflecting the relaxed character of Byron Bay. Subtle botanical and coastal motifs sit alongside clean, contemporary finishes, creating a curated material story that feels warm, residential and grounded, while remaining practical and considered for an aged care environment.
A Collaborative Design Process
With stakeholders located across different regions and managing busy schedules, communication and collaboration were essential to the project’s success.
We facilitated a series of design workshops and video conference presentations to review furniture options, specifications and design concepts. These sessions ensured all stakeholders remained informed and involved throughout the decision-making process.
To support final selections, we conducted an on-site consultation with key stakeholders, bringing a range of furniture pieces for residents and staff to trial. This hands-on approach allowed the client to evaluate comfort, functionality and suitability firsthand. Residents were also involved in the review process, providing valuable feedback that helped shape the final selections.
During this workshop, fabric options were explored and refined to ensure they met the client’s requirements for durability, cleanability and comfort. The selected fabrics also complemented the facility’s existing flooring and interior finishes, creating a cohesive and considered aesthetic.
Inspired by the Byron Bay Lifestyle
A key design objective was to create interiors that reflected the unique character of Byron Bay.
The furniture scheme incorporated colours, textures and patterns inspired by the local environment, with motifs including fish and palm leaves that celebrate the coastal setting. Thoughtful detailing, such as contrast piping, was incorporated throughout selected pieces. These details not only enhanced the visual appeal of the furniture but also assisted residents with deteriorating eyesight by providing greater visual definition.
The result is a collection of spaces that feel connected to their surroundings while delivering the comfort and practicality required in an aged care setting.

Tailored Solutions for Residents
As an Australian manufacturer, we were able to customise furniture to meet the specific needs of the facility and its residents.
A custom version of the Urban Wing Chair was developed with an increased back height to provide additional neck and head support for residents in their bedrooms. This tailored solution demonstrates the flexibility and responsiveness that local manufacturing provides, ensuring furniture can be adapted to suit individual project requirements.
We also designed and manufactured a custom buffet unit for the café and kitchen area, specifically sized to accommodate the facility’s toaster and operational requirements. This bespoke solution ensured the furniture worked seamlessly within the space while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic.
